Vacancy: RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Assignment: Breeding and Seed Production Section, Research Division in Tigbauan, Iloilo
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Fisheries, Marine Science, Aquaculture, or other related courses
Preferably:
- With good scholastic records
- Experience in laboratory work, particularly in microalgae cultivation or related fields
- Proficient in algal culturing techniques, scientific equipment operation, and biological assay procedures
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications and other computer-related tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrates strong initiative, analytical thinking, and keen attention to detail
- Passionate about research, with commendable interpersonal skills and professional work ethics
Summary of duties to be performed:
The position entails performing routine laboratory tasks such as microalgae cultivation, Thraustochytrids isolation and maintenance, and Epinephelus fuscoguttatus larval rearing and sampling. It includes monitoring and maintaining cultures, operating and maintaining research equipment, assisting in experimental setups, and conducting assessments of cell density, environmental parameters, and biochemical content. This position also requires precise data collection, adherence to laboratory safety protocols, maintenance of an organized workspace, and the performance of additional responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
