Dr. Frolan Aya started as an Associate Scientist and later was promoted to a Scientist at the Nutrition and Feed Development Section of the SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD). He is currently the Head of the Binangonan Freshwater Station of SEAFDEC/ AQD in Binangonan, Rizal. He obtained his MSc and PhD degrees on Environmental Science from the Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan through the Monbukagakusho scholarship as a Japanese government scholar. He obtained his BSc Fisheries degree from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas under a scholarship from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. He was likewise a postdoctoral fellow in Fish Nutrition at the Department of Marine Biomaterials and Aquaculture/Feeds and Foods Nutrition Research Center of the Pukyong National University sa Busan, Korea as a grantee of the National Research Foundation of Korea. His research interests are in the fields of nutrition, breeding and propagation of native freshwater fish species such as the silver therapon and climbing perch. Frolan is a member of the Ichthyological Society of Japan, National Research Council of the Philippines, and the Philippine Society of Freshwater Science.
