SEAFDEC/AQD shares seaweed research progress at international congress

Researchers from SEAFDEC/AQD showcased their research results during the 13th International Phycological Congress 2025, held from 8 to 13 June 2025 in Panglao, Bohol.

SEAFDEC/AQD was represented by Associate Researchers Ms. Hananiah Sollesta-Pitogo and Mr. Joseph P. Faisan Jr., and Research Assistant Mr. Edcel Jed D. Samson.

Under the congress theme “Promoting Algal Biodiversity, Enhancing Ecosystem Services and Resilience,” Ms. Sollesta-Pitogo presented a study titled “Caulerpa lentillifera Cultivation Using Different Types of Culture Vessels,” while Mr. Faisan shared his study on “Impacts of Seaweed Health Problems in Micropropagated Eucheumatoids Reared in Sea-Based Nursery Cages in Relation to Changing Environmental Conditions”.

The six-day event featured plenary talks, mini-symposia with international speakers, and a mid-congress symposium tour.

The International Phycological Society (IPS) convenes the International Phycological Congress every four years, bringing together experts and enthusiasts from around the world to explore cutting-edge developments in algal research. The IPS is committed to advancing the field of phycology by fostering the dissemination of phycological knowledge and promoting global collaboration among phycologists and related organizations.
