
The 3rd Aquaculture Research Talk, with the theme “Bridging Science to the People,” was held on 9 July 2025 and featured inspiring insights from SEAFDEC/AQD experts to encourage on-the-job trainees pursuing fisheries, aquaculture, and other related courses.
In line with the 52nd Anniversary Celebration of SEAFDEC/AQD, three experts shared their experiences in laboratory and field research, as well as how to communicate scientific work through various platforms.
The lectures included “LABLife: The Unexpected Perks of Research Life” by Mr. Joseph Faisan Jr., Associate Researcher; “Through time and tides: a field scientist’s journey in aquaculture research” by Dr. Jon Altamirano, Scientist; and “Research That Connects: Communicating your science so that it matters” by Mr. Rex Delsar Dianala, Head, Development Communication Section.
A total of 97 students from various schools across the Philippines participated in the event, representing institutions such as Aklan State University – College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Capiz State University – Dayao Campus, Eastern Samar State University and its Main Campus, Eastern Visayas State University -Carigara Campus, Guimaras State University – Baterna Campus, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Mindanao State University – General Santos City and Maguindanao Campus, Northern Iloilo State University – Estancia Campus, Romblon State University and its Santa Fe Campus, University of Antique – Tario Lim Memorial Campus, University of the Philippines Visayas, and West Visayas State University. The event also welcomed one international participant from Ghent University.
The research talk also featured an exhibit viewing at FishWorld, SEAFDEC/AQD’s museum-aquarium and visitor center.
