AQD presents in ISAFE 2009

Training Section Head Ms. KG Corre and Devcom Section Head Ms. MT Castaños represented AQD in the International symposium on aquaculture & fisheries education (ISAFE) which was held last November 27-30 at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Conference Center in Pathumthani, Thailand.

Ms. Corre and Ms. Castaños, who made the trip with support from AquaFish CRSP and AQD, gave an oral presentation on “Experiential learning and book development: the case of SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department.”

Participating educational institutions except those from Vietnam and China shared a common decline in their fisheries enrollment. This was attributed to students choosing the more popular IT and business courses. Educators agreed to encourage student exchange programs to enhance their students’ on-the-job-training experience.

ISAFE brings together speakers from all over the world to discuss the status of aquaculture, fisheries education, and how education could support the aquaculture industry.
