To reach out to its stakeholders, SEAFDEC/AQD was in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines to join the “20^thPanaad sa Negros Festival also dubbed as the “Festival of all festivals” that was held 8-14 April.

SEAFDEC/AQD signed an agreement with the University of the Philippines Diliman-Institute of Biology (UPD-IB) for a three-year research collaboration.

SEAFDEC/AQD’s senior information assistant Mr. Daryl Superio was in Bangkok, Thailand from 18 to 22 March to undergo training on “ASFA (Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts) input procedures”.

“The development of human civilization hinges upon the ability to develop technologies and understand risks,” noted DA Undersecretary Hon. Segfredo Serrano, chair of the DA biotech program steering committee. “What we need are biotechnologies safeguarded by a good, open regulatory system to manage risks.”

Start living healthy, eat fish! Buy pompano from SEAFDEC/AQD. Pompano is not only tasty but like most fishes, it is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids that can reduce bad cholesterol level. AQD is harvesting pompano on 22 March from its Dumangas Brackishwater Station. The market price of the 400 gram-sized pompano is Php 240 per kilo. Two NFRDI (National Fisheries Research and Development Institute of DA-BFAR) technical staff completed the five-day specialized course on algal culture which started on 18 February at SEAFDEC/AQD’s main station in Tigbauan, Iloilo, Philippines.

SEAFDEC / AQD renewed its agreement with the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) on 28 January at its main station in Tigbauan, Iloilo.

On 31 January, fresh milkfish will be harvested from AQD’s Dumangas Brackishwater Station. You can buy milkfish with sizes 250 g – 400 g ranging from Php 80 to Php 100 per kg. For the year 2012, SEAFDEC/AQD published 25 scientific papers in ISI-CC covered journals and conference proceedings which add up to a total of 1,388 scientific papers since 1973.

The Malacological Society of the Philippines Inc and SEAFDEC/AQD co-organized the 6th National Malacological Convention and training in the collection and identification of coastal mollusks in the Philippines. This was held 15-19 December 2012 at FishWorld, AQD’s museum/visitor center in Tigbauan, Iloilo, Philippines.
