A few weeks into the new year, SEAFDEC/AQD already had visitors from Maldives, Norway, and the Philippines.

AQD is in need of  technical assistant for its Breeding and Seed Production Section in Tigbauan, Iloilo

SEAFDEC/AQD is offering 13 training courses for 2012 with climate change included in the lectures. The first course, on tilapia, will begin 23 January at AQD’s Binangonan Freshwater Station in Rizal, Philippines.

Last year, AQD conducted 22 training courses with the final one on Capacity building on information dissemination and data management held 12 to 22 December 2011 and attended by participants from Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

On 1 December 2001, SEAFDEC/AQD and the Government of Japan Trust Fund (GOJ-TF) hosted the International seminar on environment-friendly aquaculture & stock enhancement in Southeast Asia and concluded the International training course on community-based freshwater aquaculture for remote rural areas of Southeast Asia.

AQD is now hiring a systems & network administrator. Deadline of submission of applications is on 06 January 2012.

To make research-and-development in fisheries more responsive to the needs of its 11 member-countries, SEAFDEC convened two meetings to work out its 2012 activities, including collaboration with ASEAN. AQD and DA-BFAR hosted these meetings in Manila from 14 to 18 November.

SEAFDEC/AQD organized two on-site training on mud crab culture and fish health management in Myanmar and Lao PDR, respectively. The mud crab training was held from 26 September to 1 October; while fish health training was conducted from 11-14 October. Both training were funded by the Government of Japan Trust Fund.

The international seminar Environment-friendly aquaculture and stock enhancement in Southeast Asia will take place at SEAFDEC/AQD in Iloilo, Philippines on 1 December 2011. Organized by the Faculty of Fisheries Sciences, Hokkaido University in Japan, the seminar will include presentations by AQD researchers who received study grants from the Japan society for the promotion of science through its Asia-Africa science platform program.
