ICPC 2018

International Conference on the Culture and Fisheries Management
of Commercially Important Portunid Crabs (ICPC)
February 21-23, 2018
Iloilo City

Interest in portunid crabs, specifically blue swimming crabs and mangrove crabs (mud crabs or Indo-Pacific swamp crabs), is increasing because they are highly priced both in domestic and export markets.  The destruction of the habitat and overexploitation of various sizes of crabs have resulted in the significant decrease of the wild resources in many countries. This situation emphasizes the need to manage and conserve the remaining crab resources and strengthen its aquaculture. Further, relevant action towards replenishment of the overexploited crab resources is needed for sustainable fisheries for food security and livelihood.

A conference on the Culture and Fisheries Management of Commercially Important Portunid Crabs (ICPC-2018) is  timely as this will be an opportunity to bring together scientists, academe, industry practitioners/stakeholders, people’s organizations, non-government organizations, local government units and other government agencies from the Southeast Asian Region to discuss the latest information and developments on portunid crab culture and fisheries management. Relevant issues and gaps and possible solutions/ recommendations will be discussed during the workshop.  Likewise, future research areas and collaborations will be identified.

We welcome all the participants to this Congress.
