The SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department’s Institutional Repository (SAIR), website (www.seafdec.org.ph), and other information strategies drew attention during the 17th Information Staff Program (ISP) meeting of SEAFDEC held in South Tangerang, Indonesia last 25-27 October 2016.

SAIR (repository.seafdec.org.ph), the official digital repository of scholarly and research information of the SEAFDEC/AQD, took the interest of the meeting because of its unparalleled contribution to the dissemination of the department’s research and development work and to the online presence of the institution.

Likewise, the SEAFDEC/AQD website was well appreciated for the volume of online traffic it receives and for its features including a recently launched responsive design which makes the site friendly to a wide array of devices.

Also recognized during the meeting was AQD’s incentive system for scientific publication which was regarded as an example to encourage the production of more technical/scientific materials among SEAFDEC Departments.

SEAFDEC Secretary General Dr. Kom Silapajarn referred to AQD’s information strategies as “very advanced” and expressed interest for AQD staff to assist in the establishment of an institutional repository in every Department and networking these together to form a central repository based at the SEAFDEC Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand.

AQD was also requested to share details with other Departments and the Secretariat on how to utilize existing arrangements with the Aquatic Science and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to facilitate sharing of scientific articles produced by the Departments with a wider audience.

Other matters discussed during the meeting included the status and updates for the preparations of the Southeast Asian State of Fisheries and Aquaculture (SEASOFIA) 2017, and preparations for the 50th SEAFDEC anniversary in 2017.

The ISP meeting is held yearly to harmonize the information-related activities undertaken by the SEAFDEC Secretariat and Departments in disseminating the results of activities and enhancing the visibility of SEAFDEC. This year’s ISP was hosted by the SEAFDEC Inland Fishery Resources Development and Management Department and included a tour of Pelabuhan Perikanan Samudera Nizam Zakhman Jakarta, Indonesia’s largest fishing port.

SEAFDEC/AQD was represented by Information Specialist and OIC of Development Communication Section Mr. Rex Delsar Dianala, and Information Assistants Mr. Elvi Nemiz and Ms. Rossea Ledesma.
