Around a thousand pupils, teachers, and facilitators from the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs visited SEAFDEC/AQD on 26 October.

AQD is in need of one information assistant for its Library and Data Banking Services Section in Tigbauan, Iloilo.

There will be another milkfish harvest from SEAFDEC/AQD’s Igang Marine Station on 28 October. Milkfish, with sizes 350 g and below, are priced at Php 95 while sizes 400 g and above will be sold at Php 105. SEAFDEC/AQD and the Agricultural Cooperative Development International / Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance (ACDI/VOCA), a nonprofit international development organization based in the United States, put together a mud crab and fish cultivation livelihood project for Timor-Leste.

Intro 2014 2015 Intro Since FishWorld opened, the people of Iloilo have reported the capture or stranding of endangered marine animals along the coasts and have brought some of them under the care of FishWorld. Marine turtles are quite often caught by fish corrals in Tigbauan, Iloilo. Captured turtles and dugongs were reported to the Pawikan Conservation Project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. All healthy turtles were tagged and released back to sea. However, turtles that were sick, injured, or domesticated and confiscated were held and rehabilitated in the hatchery tanks at SEAFDEC/AQD. 2014 2015

Dagat Isda gallery The gallery shows paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glasscraft, and other artifacts that show the influence of fish and the ocean in human culture, tradition, and modern life.

SEAFDEC/AQD participated in this year’s World Food Day celebrated every 16 October. For this occasion, AQD and the South East Asia Fish for Justice Network (SEAFISH) conducted a Training course on capacity building on good aquaculture practices from 11 to 15 October at AQD Iloilo station in the Philippines. In addition, AQD held a lecture on Nitrogen dynamics in shrimp and pond and environmental improvement ability of sandfish delivered by Dr. Masashi Kodama of National Research Institute of Fisheries Science, Fisheries Research Agency in Japan on 13 October.

SEAFDEC/AQD will convene the International workshop on fish health management, with the theme: Accelerating awareness and capacity building in Southeast Asia, on 1-2 March 2012 in Iloilo City, Philippines. The call for papers is on these topics: (1) Accelerating awareness in fish health management through capacity building, and (2) Innovative research & novel diagnostic techniques for fish pathogens. Deadline of abstracts: 1 December 2011.

About 6,000 pieces of siganid juveniles with body length of 1-2 inches are for sale at SEAFDEC/AQD’s Tigbauan Main Station, Iloilo and are priced at Php 1 per 2 cm.
